for promoting business-friendly legislation
Presented by BLS Computer & Technology Law Committee. Registration to follow
The European Union’s General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR), which went into effect on May 25, 2018, is one of the most comprehensive data protection laws in the world to date and impacts many Florida businesses, even those without a physical presence in Europe. California’s Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, is also regarded as a sweeping privacy law that is estimated to impact 500,000 businesses, including those in this state. Among other things, these new laws require companies to safeguard personal information, be transparent with consumers regarding the categories of personal information being collected and how that information is disclosed and shared, and grant consumers increased access to, and control of, their personal information.
Steven Blickensderfer and Joshua Marks are attorneys and data privacy professionals certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals to assist clients on data privacy compliance. They will present an overview of the GDPR and CCPA, particularly as it relates to Florida businesses. They will also provide an update on the progress of federal regulation and the latest regulatory efforts in Florida concerning data privacy.
