ABA Article, Using Pro Bono to build your businesss
Pro Bono Committee Mission Statement:
To achieve 100% participation in Pro Bono Service by Business Law Section members and attorneys in their firms
Resolution:
Be it resolved, that the Business Law Section, encourages pro bono service by its membership; and
Be it further resolved that as part of its efforts to further and support pro bono service, the Business Law Section supports the Pro Bono Committee partnering with the CLE Committee and other committees of the Business Law Section to include a brief (3-5 minutes) presentation re-affirming the Business Law Section's support of and commitment to pro bono service at CLE programming and other appropriate Section events.
TOP 5 PRO BONO PROJECTS 2011 -2012 Bar Year
1. Committee Member John MacDonald of Jacksonville put on the Section's first Pro Bono clinic for nonprofits working with Florida Legal Services on October 6, 2011. The program was a huge success for all concerned and will be used as the template for programs in 2012 in Tampa and Miami. ). In Miami, Mark Stein is working in partnership with the Dade County Bar Association, Pro Bono Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and the University of Miami to put on a clinic in April 2012 for more information contact Mark Stein (

2. The Business Law Section is partnering with the ABA Financial Literacy in Schools Project (with Junior Achievement). The program is designed for High Schools and Middle Schools and lasts one day a week (1/2 day at a time) for 5 or 6 weeks. It will be focusing in the Middle District of Florida – in Tampa and Orlando. They are looking for volunteers. For more information contact Jennifer Morando (

3. Judges Isicoff and McEwen initiated and are leading the efforts to develop a best practices guide for law firm Pro Bono to be available on the Section's website.
4. The Committee will hold a fundraising event (raffle) during the Section Retreat in Naples to raise money to contribute to a Florida Bar Foundation Pro Bono fellow. For more information or to assist in this project contact Russell Landy (

5. The Committee will continue its Pro Bono promotions in connection with the One Campaign, the Section's Website and Section CLE's to promote pro bono service by all business attorneys.
